UrbaCon Trading & Contracting Begins a Complete Major Renovation for Doha Marriott Gulf Hotel

One of Doha’s iconic hotel, Doha Marriott will see for the first time a full property re-imagined since opening its doors in Doha Bay in 1973. The renovation will be a key milestone for the hotel and is set for a major facelift from September 1, 2019. UrbaCon Trading and Contracting (UCC) has been appointed as the Main contractor for the project, led by Project Director Mr. Ziad Morsi.

UCC Group Chairman, Mr. Moutaz Al-Khayyat and Vice Chairman and Group CEO, Mr. Ramez Al-Khayyat have undertaken major hospitality developments in Doha, among them 5-star Hotels and Restaurants. “Our projects are always met with meticulous planning, managed by a dedicated team of experts and top-notch labors. We have high expectations for this project, and we look forward to project completion by September 2021”, explains Mr. Moutaz Al-Khayyat. In the past, UCC has worked on other 5-star developments such as Banana Island, Sheraton Hotel and Hilton DoubleTree.

While maintaining the original design, some major modifications will be made to enhance the functionality of the Hotel building, namely the project entrance road and a port coacher will be developed to be more welcoming and to give exceptional guest experience. In addition, a new Marina Building will be constructed, a family pool with a dedicated zone for kids’ activities and a full new external landscape design are in the pipeline, as stated by Katara Hospitality.

The intent of the renovation is to bring about the rich culture and heritage of Qatar, merging classic and contemporary Architecture design, at the same time meet the best standards in construction. The project is estimated to be completed in 18 months’ time.

Aiming to modernize the property and its facilities, the investment will see renovation of all guest rooms, public areas, recreation facilities and the conference and meetings space. The hotel’s food and beverage outlets will also be enhanced. The Hotel is expected to reopen by end of 2021 and will require the full closure of the hotel throughout its renovation. When it reopens, the renovated property will reflect perfectly the synergy between the striking 1970’s Architecture of one of Doha’s most recognized landmarks, with all the style and functionality that is expected of a leading 21st century luxury hotel.
